Who We Work With

Who We Work With

Picture
We will work with any vulnerable male child, adolescent or adult, of any ethnicity, sexual orientation or other diverse background.

We are the only male sexual abuse agency in the Greater Wellington region with a Ministry of Social Development (MSD) Social Services Accreditation to work with vulnerable child, adolescent and adult survivors of male sexual abuse.
We also support their partners, family, whānau and friends. We hold meetings throughout the Greater Wellington Region.

Through our Confidential Listening Service, we can by contacted via Skype, phone or email by survivors and their loved ones throughout New Zealand.

Free Services

All our services are at no cost.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is paramount for our services. At no time will any client be identified to any person outside the peer support groups.

Counselling & Therapy Services

We believe that Peer Support works best in combination with counselling and/or therapy, and can work closely with our clients’ counsellors to sort out the best approach to support them together.

Survivors: One-to-One Peer Support

Each new survivor is initially offered a one to one meeting with the Peer Support facilitator. At this meeting the individual support needs of the survivor are discussed and agreed.

Some may choose to join a weekly Peer Support group meeting either, instead of, or as well as, individual meetings with a facilitator.

Survivors: Regular Peer Support Group Meetings

Weekly Peer Support group meetings have proven to be very effective for individual survivor healing. This is especially so when complemented by counselling/therapy.

There are clinically proven benefits from participation in group Peer Support, including acknowledgement that the survivor is not alone and for many survivors it is a first step towards breaking isolation and addressing their depression.

Survivors: Structured Therapist-Led Group Workshops

We provide weekend workshops for non-offending male survivors facilitated by internationally recognised experts in the area of male survivor issues and recovery, when available.

We facilitate group workshops for spouses/partners/whānau and caregivers when available.

Partners & Family/Whānau

Survivors who are in a family situation find that their survivor coping mechanisms have a significant impact on their whole family (spouse, children and parents). Getting advice from another survivor can help with the wider family understanding of the survivors issues, and become more supportive in his wellness and recovery.

Family meetings can be weekly, two-weekly or monthly depending on family needs.

We offer couples support and we hold support groups for partners and families themselves where the survivors are not present.

Counsellor/Clinical Therapy Referrals

All survivors who approach us and who are not receiving therapy are encouraged and supported to lodge ACC claims and to commence therapy.

Advocacy & Support

When a survivor wishes to initiate police action, we offer support and advocacy. Advocates support clients approaching ACC, the Police or any other agency that is related to their recovery issues.

Referrals to Other Agencies

Mosaic-Tiaki Tangata works in partnership with other support agencies in Wellington and around New Zealand. We can help you find the appropriate support you need, no matter where you live.
