So You've Made An Appointment To See Someone At MOSAIC-Tiaki Tangata
Here's some important information. Our services are free and confidential.
If you are feeling anxious, that is totally normal. It would be strange if you weren't!! You may feel on the day that you just can't make it. That's fine, just let us know and we will make another time. You can do that as many times as you like. Eventually the day will be right to come in.
If you want your first appointment to be all about helping you with your anxiety or feelings of panic, we can do this. We have a service called Anxiety Sorted. Just get in touch with us to arrange an Anxiety Sorted appointment.
You can see anyone you want from our team. Check the website if you want to see someone in particular. It can be male or female.
What if someone sees me go in?
Our office is in a building with other agencies, no-one will know that you are coming to Mosaic-Tiaki Tangata.
What about my privacy?
No-one will know that you have been to see us, or what we talk about, unless you choose that. Confidentiality and privacy is the most important thing to us.
Can I bring a support person?
You can come with anyone you like. A partner, flatmate, family member, social worker, whoever helps you come in is fine. They can be in the room with you for your first meeting.
My memories are vague, I'm not sure what happened.
You don’t need to prove if you have good memories of events, we are not the police or the courts. Poor memory does not mean nothing happened. We can help you make sense of fragmented memories. You don’t have to prove anything to us.
I still feel uncomfortable.
Check out this app, it may help you out while you are waiting for the appointment.
When You Arrive.
You will be met in total confidentiality. You only have to give your first name if you want. No-one will ever know if you have been to see us. All our staff have police vetting and training in privacy and confidentiality issues.
Your Personal Life.
We are not the police, you only have to tell us what you want to. You don’t need to share your full name, street address or date of birth.
We never talk about what happened at the time of the event, unless you want to. Some guys come for years and never talk about it. That is fine!
We are here to talk about now to recover, not dwell on the past. If you do want to talk about it that's fine too, we can cope.
Was It Abuse? Unsure If It Was Abuse?
Males often have a difficult time identifying if some event(s) were abusive or not. We can help you figure it out.
All genders are welcome, you don’t have to disclose your gender at any time to get support. YOU can ask to see a support person of any gender you would prefer.
If it is important for you to disclose, it is important to us to know. But it will not affect you receiving support if you choose not to.
After My 1st Appointment
Well done on coming in to Mosaic for the 1st time!
You've just spoken to someone for the first time. Well done, that took a lot of courage.
Coming in and talking to someone you've never met before about a very private experience is a big deal, but it is so important to get your recovery process started.
You may feel very different for the next few days. That's normal, you have talked about something that has been a painful secret. It is like ripping the bandage off.
You may experience what we call the Roller Coaster. Some days up and some days down before your next appointment. It may not happen at all. If it does, it's not because you are weak or doing the wrong thing, it’s normal.
You may have unexpected sensations: memories, emotions, thoughts and feelings of any kind may come up. Even nightmares and physical aches and pains.
We can't predict what they will be, but it is not uncommon and is a normal result of your first time talking about this. They may be positive or negative, or just a bit unfamiliar and strange.
After this, you may feel very tired for a few days. That is normal, doing this work is tiring. You may even want to postpone your next appointment for another time, that's fine.
If you can't make it to your next appointment, that's fine, just let us know. On the day you may get severe anxiety and not be able to face coming in. That's very normal. Just wait until you are ready for another session and get back to us, we understand and won't hold it against you.
First 4 Sessions.
When you come in, you get to have 4 sessions of introduction before you decide what support you would like to have next.
Look on our booking form, and after these first 4 intro sessions you can choose any of those options. You can change support person too if you like. You can just have another 4 sessions if that is all you want.
You Are Welcome Back Anytime.
Most of all, once you have been to see us, you are welcome back anytime. We hope all goes well for you if we don’t see you for a while but please check in any time you think it could be helpful.
Recovery is one day at a time, make each day a recovery day!
